winter runs.

running outside is my favorite part of the day. & as the weather has become kinder, i am glad to be running again without falling on the ice so much. the new unearthed mud has officially broken in the nike shoes i got a few months ago. reeds lake has been good to me while i’ve been living in this city—i’ve loved running the familiar paths through each season:summer, fall, winter, & now spring. running to clear my head, get inside my head, to stretch my gangly legs…

one thing i am going to miss about my winter runs are the ice fishermen at reeds. i love seeing them all out on the frozen lake. their big overalls & boots, with their dogs & their camp sites all over the huge expanse of snowy ice. most of all, i love that every single one of them i meet has a huge grin on their face. i have yet to see an unhappy fisherman there. they are always so nice to me, showing me their catches of the day, remarking about the weather, & how good life is to be out “fishin”. whatever it is they are really doing out there—fishing, bonding, freezing their fisherman boots off—it’s working for them. i will be sad to see them go.
